Essay: Islamic Financial Institutions

Sample Essay Sundararajan and Errico (4-7, 2002) highlighted additional reasons for not adopting genuine Islamic products, practically sharing models because Islamic financial institutions would be required to bear the loans if a loss occurs rather than using collateral or other guarantees to decrease the level of risk. In addition, the complex processes to get approvals and run the new product in Islamic financial institutions create great difficulties. Ahmad (27, 2009) gives another reason for continuing to use conventional products—namely, that the risks in Islamic financial institutions are still not perfectly understood and are quite complex given the different stages of any transaction. Essay: Business structure of Volvo

Sample Essay

The acquisition of Volvo is the biggest but not the first cross-border deal for Geely. In 2006, the partnership between Geely and Manganese Bronze took place for the production of components for assembling London Taxi vehicles. The idea behind this acquisition is to minimize the gap between Volvo's traditional European management mode and Geely's mode of conventional business. The current business structure of Vovlo makes it difficult for Geely to attain the maximum benefits of the localization considering the future plans of Geely for setting a plant in China. It is in the best interest of Geely to subsidize the Volvo global operation while keeping the margins low for Geely’s local business operations that may pose a serious threat to Geely’s working capital management in future (Russo 2010).

Essay: Variable cost related to revenues

Sample Essay

Since our variable cost accounts for 50 percent of the revenues therefore, no significant change can be expected for cost reduction in such a case. So if we increase the sales, variable costs increases, regardless of all the factors involved, in such a case costs cannot be pushed down by a firm to maximize profitability. The above table shows no matter how much increase is made in sales the variable cost will simultaneously increase. This is the weakness of this model where variable cost is directly related to revenues. Keeping in view this limitation, a firm has to control its variable costs to meet its sales objectives.

Essay: Funding Sources for the Acquisition of Volvo

Sample Essay

The acquisition of Volvo was not too simple as a strategy for the Chinese global automotive business. Initially, the deal between Geely and Volvo remained under negotiations for long and then finally approved for an overall acquisition value of $2.7 billion (Flaherty, Webb, 2010). Geely was financially strained during the deal, and the funding for Volvo’s acquisition was backed by Chinese financial institutions and regional authorities. The strategy behind the funding was to collect funds in an integrated way that may not necessarily put pressure on a single source. These sources were Chinese commercial banks and regional bodies, who were asked to fund the deal because Geely itself was financially strained (The Local, 2010).
