Essay: Vulgar Lyrics

The first controversial argument of the paper is about lyrics. The vulgarity of the language used in the culture of hip hop is offensive. Jay Z in his song, ‘Kingdom come’ gives us a small taste of the language used. / The game’s f*****    up/, he says. Dyson neglects to write the expletive in full (xiv-xx). Other musicians use worse language, and they do not hide what they are saying. However the lyrics, although vulgar, sometimes have a meaning, and not all artists have vulgar music. This is well illustrated by Nas’ song, ‘I can’: /I know I can/ be where I wanna be/ if I work hard at it/ I will be where I wanna be/. The song is an encouragement to anyone who wants to become more than what he/ she is now and is very far removed from sex and violence. It shows that in that movement, there are those who desire and work for a better future. These are just excerpts of essays for you to view.
