Although he has been gay for many years, and while his family is aware of his sexual preferences, Nathaniel has not managed to bridge that gap that was forged between them. There is still that strain that takes a significant toll on his relationship with his family. While time may give his family alternative ideas about how to view and treat him, I do not believe that this will happen soon. My reason for saying this is for the simple reason that it will be near impossible for his parents to let go of the beliefs they have held so dear for many years. This is heightened by the fact that they are staunch Catholics.
