The world shown by Gibson proves that people must defend themselves against others to succeed. After Bobby proposes that his relationship with Jack should die, Jack proposes a break to Bobby instead. He sees Bobby to be exhausted and thus cannot make rational decisions. He is afraid that he will no longer live with his friend.
Jack had proved to be a bit selfish but was now willing to give the money he had hidden to his friend so that he could travel for a break and still come back. He is not for the idea of the two breaking their relationship. He had earlier thought that he can sell the Russian program he had, hid the money and eloped with Rikki, but has forgotten the idea now. He is certain that he cannot make it on his own right now.
