FBI, 2003 statistics shows that 72,000U.S.women are forcibly raped each year based on the reported cases which account to 32% only (Cabassi, 2008, p. 69). Rape as an unlawful carnal knowledge by force without consent, is regarded as a crime of violence rather than sexual offense by virtual criminologist. As a result much attention has been given to prevention and treatment of sexual offending.

Rape crime is an intra-racial crime with 45% involving African Americans, 54% being whites and 1% other races. Additionally, reports indicate that rape crimes are rampant and skyrockets during summer months of July and August during midnight hours on weekends and 18 hours weekdays than on winter seasons. Weapon use in rape crimes are rare cases accounting to about 10 percent only. Rape crime trend and frequency is directly related to the population density of the cities. For instance sexual offenses occur mostly in medium sized cities, then rural areas, while only a third of these offenses occur in metropolitan areas.
