Essay: Breast Cancer in Men

The big question in the issue of breast cancer in men is how they develop the disease yet they do not have breasts like women. From a medical perspective, men do in fact have breast tissues but they do not develop to become breasts because of the absence of the stimulating hormone present in women and from this, it is thus possible for men to develop breast cancer. However, cases of breast cancer in men are rather rare because they possess only small amounts of breast tissue and they also excrete relatively lower amounts of breast related hormones-like oestrogen-than women. The development of breast cancer in men is mostly influenced by age. Cases of breast cancer in young and middle-aged men under 35 years are rare. Breast cancer mostly affects men in their old age at around 60 to 70 years (WebMD, 2009).
