Essay: Teething- Crying Babies

Sample Essay

Teething is a very common cause of fussiness in babies. It mainly affects infants of between 4 months and 2 years (Barr, 1998. P. 1287). Teething causes soreness in the mouth. This may however cause less crying since the baby is distracted from the agonies by other things that may be going on around them.

However, this developmental stage becomes more of a liability when the baby is not experiencing any destruction around them. The pain becomes more and more noticeable as the surrounding becomes calmer. This leads to a lot of crying from the pain the baby feels on his or her gums. Furthermore, the baby also loses a lot of sleep during this time, which is carried forward to the following day. Alteration of sleeping patterns is harmful to the babies comfort and this might result into a fuss.
