There are four styles of parenting that could be used by parent at any one instance when bringing up their children (Warash 2007, pp. 12-31) To begin with, authoritative parenting entails the expectations by the parents that the children would comply to the directions and rules offered to them. This style of parenting does not really provide room for the children to have a say on what the parents direct them to do rather they are expected to adhere to the laid down rules and comply with the parents orders. Under this model of parenting, little or no dialogue takes place between the parent and the child (Landes-Stordahl 2008). A lot is also expected from the children and the parents do not have to explain to the children why certain actions are taken or why certain types of behaviors and actions are expected from the children. Even though this style of parenting allows for the exchange of ideas among the two parties concerned, limits are normally set and the children expected to portray a high sense of maturity and responsiveness. The core aspect of this style is that the parents are always very demanding yet very responsible. In return, children brought up using this style would most likely be independent, would have high self esteem, and would be very obedient since they are used to adhering to the stipulated standards and rules.
