Ascribing certain characteristics to a certain group based on a stereotype has occasionally led to victimization of that particular group. The African Americans have experienced several forms of prejudice and stereotypes in the history of America. The movie industries as well as the media in America have developed all forms of prejudice and stereotypes in relation to the African Americans (Dovidio & Gartner, 1999).
Since history, the American movie industry has usually portrayed the African American as a lazy, unintelligent and violence prone community. The stereotyped pictures that occur in nearly all American movies have encouraged the development of prejudice to the African Americans (Massey, 1999).
