Essay: Reasons and possible effects of US intervention in Libya

Sample Essay

The Libyan president is deemed to champion an autocratic form of governance thus subjecting Libyans to massive oppression and denial of human rights. This is the main reasons why the US has a close interest in the Libyan crisis. The battle is believed to have a very strong essence from the type of leadership, which Libyans want to abolish. Being the super power, the US is under the obligation of ensuring that he world is at peace, perhaps a reason why it feels it necessary to intervene in this crisis (IDSA, 2011, p. 6).

The US could also have opted for intervention due to pressure of its close allies the UK and France. The three countries had many differences as to how the issue should be addressed with France and the UK pressing the US to take charge. This pressure is probably behind the US intervention in the crisis since it made the US launch the initial air strikes.
