Essay: The government of Athens during Aristotle’s time

Sample Essay

During the time of Aristotle, the government system revolved around the upper-class or Aristocrats. Aristotle claims that the aristocrats held on to power because they felt were ordained by Zeus the Greek god to be rulers. According to Aristotle these leaders claimed to have the strong will of the citizens to rule on their behalf because they were virtuous (Clayton, 2004).

They clung on to power because they feel that they have the political will of the people by claiming that their power was consolidated by claims of justice. However, after making his evaluation Aristotle claims these peoples’ behavior were completely different from what they claimed to be. They promoted an equal distribution of power and restricted political rights on the side of the poor by subjecting women and slaves to inferior status.
