Egyptian protests came amid clear indications that its economy was not performing poorly at the global level (The New York Times, 17). However, protesters cited a poor or weak economy as one of the main fueling agents of their protests. They argued that their government was not trust worthy since what it offered them was small compared to what their economy was assumed to be.
From a pragmatist ideology, the need to make the truth less rigid and soft is the ideal nature of any stable social set up. This belief can easily be related to Egypt’s riots in the sense that lack of truthfulness and openness within their government prompted their demands for a new system of leadership. Strong believers of this theory believe that when truth is made supple enough, every thing becomes clear, and life goes on uninterrupted (Durkheim).
