Working as a sexual health advisor with ex offenders, I decided to use five male respondents whose ages were between 16-34 years. This decision was arrived at because I together with the respondents were familiar with one another.
I was certain that this status would help much in getting all the information I needed from these people a they had the courage to speak to someone they knew. The conversation was lively and the respondents could open up and talk about their experience. This is not the case if the two parties happen to be strangers to one another because respondents are likely to feel uncomfortable to talk openly about the issues sought by this research.
